The Future is Diamond (OJC)
We have some exciting news to share: Pluto Journals is now a member of the Open Journals Collective (OJC), which launches in January 2026. It’s an exciting step towards a brighter future for diamond open access!
What is the OJC?
The OJC is a newly founded international group of scholars, libraries, and publishers working to support a sustainable future for academic journals by promoting diamond open access, meaning no author fees and no paywalls. It also aims to challenge profit driven models of global corporate publishing.
The OJC will launch with journal collections covering Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), bringing together around 300 diamond open access journals in 2026.
How will this support the Pluto Journals collection?
Being part of the OJC will help raise the profile of our journals and extend the reach of the research we publish. It will also help build long term sustainability for diamond open access by attracting investment from libraries, funders, and consortia to support open access publishing.
The OJC will also bring together like minded academics, librarians, and publishers who share our commitment to democratising knowledge production and dissemination. By working together, we can build a collective voice that upholds academic integrity and supports independent publishers like us to remain autonomous.
