Dhaxalreeb, Somaliland Center for African Studies Journal has released a new issue.
Volume 21: Issue 2 begins with an editorial note from Dr Jama Musse Jama titled, Why Diamond Open Access in the Global South?. The article examines the challenges of knowledge production in the Global South and highlights Dhaxalreeb‘s contribution to resolving some of these challenges.
Marwaad Kayse’s Diaspora Media and Resistance: Somali Horizon and the Struggle Against Siad Barre’s Regime examines the historical, political and transnational impact of Somali Horizon a political diaspora magazine published in the 1980s in the United States.
Halgan Daahir Axmed’s Why I chose to Rewrite Somali Lullabies, offers a critical analysis of Somali lullabies in relation to girls with the aim of redefining how Somali women are represented and their role in existing literature.
Kidist Dorigatti’s The Inner World in Cilmi Boodhari’s Love Poetry is a celebration of his love poetry, how his writing of it shifted the form from the margins to the centre, making him a spokesperson for social reform and in turn challenging cultural norms.
Mirea Gabry Del Bianco’s Somali Women’s Religious Poetry Through the Figure of Eve: Representing the Sacred and Engaging with Tradition assesses the Eve, the first woman in Somali religious poetry, making a great contribution to the under-studied topic within Islamic contexts.
Tirsit Yetbarek Seme’s Climate Justice through Development of Climate Terminology: The Case of the Somali Language argues for a standardised development of Somali climate language, an inclusive approach that is also “a critical enabler of equitable climate action.”
The collaborative article Sheikh Mahmud Suleiman and His Reflections on the Tijaniyya Sufi Order: A Study Based on His Manuscripts by Fatuma Hussein Abdulkerim and Nuraddin Aman draws inquiry into the intellectual and spiritual legacy of Sheikh Mahmud Suleiman.
Finally, Rameta Muzeyen and Nuraddin Aman’s article Textual and Contextual Study of the Ḫulāṣah Manuscript Sheikh Badruddīn ibn Ubbiyy on Ethiopian Indigenous Muslim Scholars examines the Islamic manuscript titled Ḫulāṣatu Muḫtaṣari Taḥrīril ‘UṣūliWal’awrād Fi Ḏikri Tarāǧimi ‘Ašyāḫinā Wa ‘ Ašyāḫi Nāḥiyatinā Wal ‘Asyād.
The initial six AJI journals are Diamond Open Access and all articles are free to read. You will be able to see the issues as they are published on ScienceOpen and JSTOR.
