Ibadan Journal of Sociology is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that considers articles from sociology, anthropology and other related disciplines. The journal has a special focus on all aspects of social relations and the impact of social policies, practices and interventions on human relations. Ibadan Journal of Sociology focuses on the needs of individuals for reporting research findings, case studies and reviews.
Ibadan Journal of Sociology provides a platform for Africans and scholars in other world regions to disseminate and share findings on research related to the development, structure and functions of society as well as impact of social policies, practices and interventions in Africa. The journal publishes original research articles and policy papers twice a year.
Ibadan Journal of Sociology is a peer-reviewed academic publication dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field of sociology, with a particular focus on African society and social dynamics. It offers a platform for original research articles, reviews, and policy papers that explore a wide range of social issues, including the structure and functions of societies, as well as the effects of social policies and practices. The journal aims to contribute to the development of sociological theory and methodology, addressing both global and local social challenges. It particularly welcomes research that examines the social realities of Africa, offering critical insights into various social phenomena, from health and education to economic development and governance. With its twice-yearly publication, the journal seeks to foster academic discourse and policy discussions that impact social development, transformation, and reform on the continent.

The journal became Open Access on 1 January 2025 and is available to read for free on ScienceOpen. This means the Reuse rights of published material are all under the open CC BY 4.0 license as stated here.
This journal follows Pluto Journals’ Ethics and Code of Conduct policy, which aligns with the ethical standards endorsed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). In particular:
- We expect all authors to state in their article if they have a conflict of interest which could
potentially bias their opinions – for example funding or employment. - All named authors on the articles should confirm that they have jointly participated in the research and writing of the article, and that no author has been omitted from the list of authors.
- We require authors to warrant that their articles are original, have not been previously
published, and do not plagiarise or otherwise copy someone else’s work without attribution. (If the article is a translation, we are happy to consider this for publication but the authors must inform the editors on submission). - We also require authors to warrant that their article does not defame, libel, or bring another
person into disrepute, and neither does it contain anything illegal (e.g. copyright infringing).
Dr Jama Musse Jama is an ethno-mathematician with a PhD in African Studies specialising in Computational Linguistics of African Languages, and author and editor of 19 books and 36 academic articles. His current research focuses on the role of heritage, art and culture in the development, peace building, and state formation, including settlements and cities expansion in Somaliland. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of Dhaxalreeb – Somaliland Centre for African Studies Academic Journal. He is known for his research on traditional African games and their possible use within formal education. As founder and yearly organiser of the influential Hargeysa International Book Fair, and current Director of the Hargeysa Cultural Centre in Somaliland, Dr. Jama also has a Senior Associate Researcher position at Italian’s National Research Council at Istituto di Linguistica Computazionale “Antonio Zampolli” (CNR-ILC), and a Lead Researcher at Somaliland Centre for African Studies. He is senior lecturer at the University of Hargeysa, Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies. A fellow of RVI, and the founder of Ponte Invisibile Ed, publishing arm of the Redsea Cultural Foundation in Italy and in Somaliland.
